Real to meet PSV in Russian Railways Cup final
Real blasted Lokomotiv in semis 5:2; PSV outdid Milan in a shootout to gain a spot in the cup final.
Milan - PSV clash opened the first play of the Russian Railways Cup tournament. A heavy rain prevented the teams from showing their best as the forwards kept silent throughout the regulate and extra-time. It was in a shootout that PSV secured a spot in the final as Carlos Salcido scored the crucial goal for his team. PSV captain Timmy Simons who opened the shootout failed to give the lead to his team, unlike Milan brilliant forward Kaka who made it 1:0 for the Italian side. John de Jong drew the score level 1:1 but Serginho returned the lead to Milan 2:1. Eric Addo equalised the score again but Andrea Pirlo restored the status-quo for Milan 3:2. Mike Zonneveld forced in still another equaliser for PSV but this time Milan did not get back the lead after Yoann Gourcuff failed to convert his attempt. Carlos Salcido delivered the lead to PSV for the first time in the shootout 4:3. It was Clarence Seedorf who had a chance to keep Milan in the game but the ball kicked the bar after his shot to pave the way for PSV to the final.
Lokomotiv started their clash against Real in a perfect manner as they dominated on the field and never let the opponents create any scoring opportunities, at least in the first half. Unlike Real, Loko managed to score twice and with a comfortable 2:0 on the scoreboard the Moscow team headed for the lockers. Yet it was too early to celebrate as things are never easy with Real. Guti`s double, goals from Higuain, Javier Saviola and Balboa made a U-turn in the game 2:5 as Loko now have only the third place to contend for. It is noteworthy that Loko were 2:3 behind a minute before the end of the regulate time and it was only in the closing minutes of the game that Guti and Balboa made the score indecent for the hosts of the tournament.
The final clash of the Russian Railways Cup in which PSV will face Real is to take place Sunday as well as the third place match between Milan and Lokomotiv.
