The `Superstar` singer moved out of the home she shared with soccer player Darren Byfield - with who she raises two children, Teja, her eight-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, and Tiani, four - last week and the pair are set to start legal proceedings to end their 16-month union.
No reason has been given for their split. The couple confirmed in a statement said: "It is with regret that Jamelia and Darren Byfield confirm they are splitting up and getting a divorce.
"No one else is involved. Their priority is naturally their two children." Jamelia, 28, and 33-year-old Darren have seen their relationship fraught with difficulty.
The couple separated in August 2007 amid rumours the sportsman had had an affair, but reconciled a few months later and married in a lavish ceremony in June 2008.
A friend said: "Their relationship has been through lots of ups and downs. Jamelia took him back after he was accused of straying but the last year has been tough.
"Jamelia decided to leave this week and there is no going back this time. They are both devastated, but have vowed to remain on civil terms for Tiani."
The divorce announcement is in stark contrast to Jamelia`s recent comments about the future of her family. She said this summer that she and Darren were hoping to have more children.
She said: "We definitely want more children, but not yet - I want to concentrate on my career for a while."
