Hurricane Harvey approaches the coast of Texas
Hurricane Harvey approaches the coast of Texas on Friday and is expected to bring up to 35 inches of rain, destructive waves and flood waters, which can reach heights of 6-12 feet above ground level along the coast of the state.
Forecasters say that Harvey is on track to become a hurricane category 3 with winds of at least 111 mph by the time when it reaches the middle Texas coast Friday night or Saturday morning. Harvey strengthened early Friday, becoming a category 2 hurricane with winds up to 105 miles per hour, according to the National weather service.
Individual tornadoes are possible in areas of the middle and upper coast of Texas on Friday, said the service. Texas Governor Greg Abbott was asked to reactivate 700 members of the National guard. The ports of Corpus Christi and Galveston are closed.
The threat Harvey became apparent on Thursday, when several districts on the coast of Texas has issued evacuation orders, and began leaving the inhabitants to a safer place. The ambulance remained busy all night, while 10 critically ill children were evacuated from the hospital in Corpus Christi, said in a statement the Children's hospital cook in Fort worth.
Working on 39 offshore platforms to oil production and oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico were evacuated on Thursday, according to the Bureau of safety and environmental protection.
