Christina Aguilera has a "nonexistent" relationship with her father
The 29-year-old singer has barely spoken to Fausto Aguilera since he split from her mother Shelly Kearns when she was just seven years old. Fausto was an abusive man, who made Shelly and Christina`s life "chaotic" right up until the day he walked out.
For years, Christina tried to have a relationshipwith her father, but doesn`t see the point now that she has a husband and child of her own.
"Our relationship is pretty nonexistent," Christina told the June issue of Latina magazine. "I`m in a place in my life where I just don`t see a reason for it.
"To remember the chaos that [my mother] went through, the abuse, I don`t know how she did it. But it`s amazing how much you can trick your mind into surviving when you have to."
Christina has now forgiven her father for what he did to her mother, but will never forget how he behaved. She has vowed to keep him away from her husband Jordan Bratman and their two-year-old son Max so he doesn`t have the chance to ruin another family.
"There`s always room for forgiveness," she explained. "And I do forgive - but you grow up and make choices for your family."
Christina also opened up about her relationshipwith Jordan in the interview. She said she feels "lucky" to have him as he is such a stable influence in her life, who helps her see through people who are just trying to use her.
"Jordy was the calm in the storm when everybody else was driving me crazy," Christina said. "I had a lot of older people around me who were conniving - and these people do that so you cling to them. He was the person who reached down, pulled me out and made me see reason. I`m very lucky to have him."
