Number of visitors at Shanghai World Expo reaches 5 million
The number of visitors at the ShanghaiWorldExpo has reached 5 million, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.
Xinhua said the 5-millionth guest visited the Expo on Sunday evening. Experts say tourists have become interested in the exhibits, estimating the number of visitors to reach at least 70 million over the following six months.
Russia`s pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 WorldExpo welcomed its 500,000th visitor on Sunday, a 22-year-old student from the Polytechnic Institute in Jiangsu Province, who received a souvenir from the Russian pavilion`s administration.
She said that she and her friends study computer technology and were attracted by the advertisement of the Russian exhibit.
The 2010 WorldExpo is held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Up to 70 million people are expected to visit the city for the event, which has seen investment of up to $4 billion.
Russia constructed a pavilion at the exhibition for the first time in 30 years. The sun-shaped pavilion comprises 12 white-and-gold towers symbolizing the 12 months of the year, and occupies an area of 6,000 square meters.
It showcases Russia`s recent scientific and economic development and offers a diverse cultural program.
