Giles Deacon is the new creative director of Emanuel Ungaro
The British designer sparked speculation he was taking over the top job at the fashion house after he was seen meeting with its owner, Asim Abdullah, in Paris last month. Giles repeatedly denied the claims, but has now announced he is working with the label.
"It`s an exciting relationship both because there are similarities between the Giles and the Ungaro women but there are distinct differences too," he told Vogue.co.uk. "Various things have happened at the house recently which for legal reasons the company can`t comment on - but I like to think of the bigger picture. The house and its legacy have a lot more to them than that - and there will be announcements over the coming weeks about the business. I can`t talk about them yet but various changes are being put in place."
It is unknown what issues Giles was referring to, although the firm has experienced a lot of upheaval over the last six months. Lindsay Lohan left her role as artistic advisor to the brand, while head designer Estrella Archs also moved on.
Giles is confident he will be able to turn the fashion house`s fortunes around. He will present his first collection at Paris Fashion Week in October, although he is considering simply showing the pieces to industry professionals rather than staging a lavish runway show.
"Nothing is set in stone yet but - I want to be able to get my head into it before considering a catwalk show," he told the site. "Plus a presentation can be a much more interesting way to show - I can walk people through the designs and discuss the ideas with them - it makes it a much more personal experience."
