Abandoned Russian boy wanted to go home claims U.S. adoptive mother
An eight-year-old boy who was put on a plane alone back to Russia by his adoptive U.S. mother last year wanted to go home, she claims.
Artyom Savelyev arrived at a Moscow airport in April carrying a note from his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen, saying she did not want him as he was "psychotic." She had adopted him from Russia`s Far East in September 2009.
Russian children rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday: "Ms Hansen is trying to prove that she did not reject Artyom. `He wanted to go back to mummy and she let him go,` her lawyer says."
Astakhov added that Hansen "is trying to avoid paying alimony."
"We will seek justice with regard to Artyom," he wrote. "[We will] demand alimony from the American adoptive mother and annul the adoption."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the incident "a monstrous deed."
