Madagascar makes millions in a day in Russia
Russians love comedies, especially those made in Hollywood. Now, the Madagascar-3 animated adventure has raked in $4 million on just the first day of its release in Russia, a box office record for the animation industry in the country.
ґThe DreamWorks Animation hit revolves around a group of escaped zoo animals, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe.
The third installment of the franchise boasting a budget of $145 million targets kids and "young adults".
"This is a perfect film to watch for families during holidays. On average, Madagascar rakes in $308,000 per hour and we hope it will manage to keep up the pace for as long as possible," director of distribution at Central Partnership Vadim Vereschagin commented.
DreamWorksэ previous box office record belongs to Shrek Forever After, which gathered nearly $3 million on the first day of its release in Russia.
