Will Russian-Lithuanian commission about border demarcation end up peacefully?
VILNIUS, November 11 - The resort town of Palanga will host the fourth meeting of the Russian-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission on cooperation on Friday.
The commission is co-chaired by Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis.
According to the press service of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, the parties will foremost discuss the beginning of work on demarcation of the Lithuanian-Russian state border, the coordination of actions on modernization of border infrastructures and the problem of shipping in the Kurshsky Bay.
They will also consider the implementation of the 2K project /cooperation between the ports of Kaliningrad and Klaipeda in order to increase their competitiveness in the Baltic region/.
In May, 2005, Russia and Lithuania signed an intergovernmental agreement on the 2K project which became effective in September.
Another item on the agenda is the Russian-Belarussian-Lithuanian project envisioning container shipments by rail across the territories of the three countries.
Russia and Lithuania are planning to sign two intergovernmental agreements: on shipping in the Kurshsky Bay and cooperation in implementing joint search and rescue operation by ships and aircraft in the Baltic Sea.
