Biggest Palace of Arts opened in Spain
The Palace has been built for nine years and it has the shape of the huge sea shell with the height of 71 meters and the length of 165 meters.
On Sunday in the region Valensia the big holiday took place. It was devoted to the opening of the biggest in Spain and in the whole world Palace of Arts named after the queen Sofia - Palau dels Arts Reina Sofia.
The queen Sofia and the architecture Santiago Calatrava were also present at the opening.
Palace of Arts is the last building from the complex of the unique constructions: Palace of Science, sea aquarium "Oceanografic", the huge movie-theatre "Hemisferic".
Palace of Arts consists of the opera hall which can seat 1750 people, two halls of the dramatic theatres for 400 audiences, the hall for meetings containing 1500 participants, restaurants, cafes.
The opera "Karmen" was shown in honour of the opening of Palace of Arts.
It cost 2,8 mln euros to hold the celebration.
The chief of Palace Jelga Shmidt informed that the building will be closed till the beginning of the theatre season in 2006-2007.
The city administration of Valensia was unsatisfied with the fact that the inputs for the building were three times higher than it was planned beforehand.
