Leader Barack Obama has made the initiative of the candidacy of John Tefft as Ambassador to Russia, informs the White house.
Now the candidate is obliged to approve the Senate.
first assistant of the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov said that Moscow gave do that (preliminary consent) on the arrival of John Tefft.
The position of U.S. Ambassador to Russia vacant since February, when the resignation of the previous Ambassador Michael McFaul.
John Tefft from late 2009 to August 2013 was U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, first worked as an Ambassador in Lithuania (2000-2003) and in Georgia (2005-2009), held the post of Deputy head of the us diplomatic mission in the capital of Russia in 1996-1999. Between 1989 and 1992 he was Deputy head of the state Department for the USSR/Russia and the CIS.
