Sportsmen to compete for 8 sets of Olympic medals on Sunday
Russian sportsmen will compete for 8 sets of Olympic medals in Torino on February 12. Russian team pins main hopes on ski races, where men and women will compete in cross-country skiing, and on luge, where men-singles will make final attempts.
Ladies` pursuit for 15-km will start at 12:00. Sportswomen will ski 7.5 km by classical style and the remaining part of the distance - by free style. Russial team will be represented by 2-times Olympic champion Yulia Chepalova, Olga Zavyalova, Elena Burukhina and Evgenia Medvedeva.
Men will start their duathlon pursuit (15 km +15 km) at 15:45. Russian Ivan Arteev, Ivan Babikov, Alexander Legkov and Evgeniy Dementev will participate in the race.
Lugers will make their 3-rd and 4-th attempts at 18:00. Russian Albert Demchenko is on second place after 2 attempts losing to main favorite of competitions - Olympic champion of Salt Lake City Armin Zoeggeler. On Saturday, February 11, Demchenko made both attempts in second group and sledged on damaged sleigh-road. President of Russian Luge Federation Valery Silakov has announced that the leader of Russian team did his best in such situation.
Russian sportsmen have slight hopes for medal in ski jumping. Competitions of jumping from 90-meters` ski jump will start at 20:00. Russia will be represented by Dmitry Vasiliev, Denis Kornilov, Ildar Fatkullin and Dmitry Ipatov.
Moreover, medalists in snowboard, speed skating for distance of 3000 meters among women, short track speed skating for 1500 meters among men, and alpine skiing among men will become known today. In these kinds of sports Russia has no chances for prize places.
