FT: Berlin hopes to stabilize relations with Russia through China


Berlin wants to stabilize relations with Russia, with China, using the Premier of the state Council Li Keqiang as mediator writes.

Premier of the state Council of China Li Keqiang arrived in Germany on an official visit, together with a delegation of several hundred people to provide for intergovernmental meetings. The next item on the schedule Keqiang is Moscow, and Merkel hopes that it will act as a mediator in the relationship between Germany and Russia in matters concerning Ukrainian fall, writes the FT.

the journal emphasizes, It's a very unusual time for China, as this country often refuses mediation in the settlement of international relations.

" The situation in Ukraine and the stabilization of relations with Russia - the main priorities of Germany, " commented Sebastian Heilmann, head of the Berlin Institute of Chinese studies MERICS.- China has become an important partner for Berlin, because the Russian Federation is listening to him. In this case we can observe a new configuration of diplomatic relations ".

The visit of Li Keqiang in the capital of Russia will last 3 days from 12 to 14 October. This is his 1st Visit to the Russian Federation in the form of Premier of the State Council of China.
