Zimmerman telegram found
British historians found original typed document of famous "Zimmerman telegram".
English historian who preferred to stay unknown said that he found original of document that pull USA into World War I.
By his words, on this document there is a note of the naval intelligence head Reginald Hall which says: "This document was given to Page and showed to president". (Walter Page was the USA ambassador in Great Britain during that time).
Till present days document was considered as lost. By Hall`s order, the majority of documents referring to World War I was destroyed. In national Public Record Office was kept only photocopy of the document and many historians considered "Zimmerman telegram" as false one.
At the end of 1916 Arthur Zimmerman, German minister of Foreign Affairs worked out the plan of getting Mexico to participate in war against USA. In January 1017 Zimmerman sent telegram with plan details to German Ambassador Bernsdorf. It was said that Germany plans total underwater war against Atlanta ships but will try not to damage ships under USA flag not to let USA into war.
In case Washington decides to participate in war German ambassador has to involve Mexico into war against USA. In return Germany promised to return sates taken from Mexico - Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Telegram was intercepted and opened by British secret department "Room 40". It was published later in American press and aroused indignation of Americans. Month later USA Congress officially declared war to Germany.
