Biography TARKOVSKY Andrei Tarkovsky

Andrei Tarkovsky, the son of the famous Russian poet Arseny Tarkovsky, was born April 4, 1932 in the village of Ivanovo region Zavrazhye. In 1951-1952 he studied at the Arabic department of the Middle East Department of the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies, then, in 1952-1953, he worked in the VNII-ferrous metals and gold, worked in geological parties.
In 1960, Andrei Tarkovsky graduated from the directing department VGIK, where he was engaged in the workshop of Mikhail Romm. Thesis novice director, short films "Steamroller and the Violin" at the New York festival of student films in 1961, won the grand prize. He then worked on a film studio "Mosfilm". Andrei Tarkovsky was the author and co-scripting "Antarctica - a faraway country", "One chance in a thousand", "Gofmaniana", "Watch out!" Snakes! ", He also starred in the films" I am 20 years old "," Sergei Lazo ". During his studies he made several short films ( "Assassins"). World fame brought Andrei Tarkovsky is his first full-length work - "Ivan's Childhood", set in explanation of the military's story Bogomolova "Ivan". In the future all Tarkovsky became noticeable event in the cultural life of the country, affecting the spiritual development of society. Tarkovsky has conducted two theatrical productions: in 1972 - a performance by the play of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" at Moscow's Lenin Komsomol Theater, and in 1983 - Pushkin's "Boris Godunov" in London on the stage of Covent Garden.
In 1982, the director went to Italy, where he staged the tape "Nostalgia" with Oleg Jankowski in the main role of the Russian poet, who died in Italy from homesickness. Subject personal sacrifice most developed in "The Sacrifice, Tarkovsky's last film, the director staged in Sweden.
One of the great Russian directors of XX century, Andrei Tarkovsky died of cancer on Dec. 29, 1989. He was buried in Paris at the Russian cemetery of Saint-Genevieve-des-Bois.
