Biography Joseph Volotskii
(in the world - Ivan Sanin) (1439-1515) - a church leader, writer. From family Volokolamsky landowner. In J.446 g. apprenticed to an elder Arseny Lezhenke Volokolamsky Exaltation of the Cross Monastery. In 1460, Mr.. a monk in Pafnutevo-Borovsky monastery, where he spent the next 20 years. After the death Pafnutii approved a new abbot of the monastery. In 1503, Mr.. joined the fight against non-covetous on the monastery's land tenure. Managed to convince of the correctness of his position of Ivan III, who initially supported the non-covetous. He stood at the origins of the special direction of Russian social thought the end of the XV - beginning of XVI century. - Iosiflyanstva associated with the protection of church and monastic land tenure, the inviolability of religious dogma, the strengthening of statehood in Russia. Canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
