Biography Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi)
1869 - 1948 Mahatma (translated as "obladyuschy great soul") Gandhi was born in a large Indian official. In 1893-1914 i.i. lived and South Africa. In 1915, Mr.. returned to India and soon became head of the Indian National Congress. Developed tactics of nonviolent struggle for independence "satyagraha". Gandhi appealed to villagers to sustain themselves with all necessary, acted for the revival of hand spinning and weaving. In 1930. he led the "salt march" to the sea, where the trip participants manually evaporated salt. This action was a symbolic protest against the government salt monopoly. Opposed the Indo-Muslim riots and was killed by a member of the Hindu chauvinist organization.
