Criticism

Alexander Brodsky - one of the main followers and leaders of "paper architecture", has experienced its finest hour in 80-ies. Until 1993, all projects are developed jointly with Ilya Utkin, whose solo exhibition Gallery of Regina held in the spring of 1995.
. "Paper Architecture", . as is evident already from its very name, . was born conceptual architectural practice, . and its results can be considered and a kind of easel graphics (Brodsky fans appreciate his work as well as a virtuoso etching), . and literature with "pictures",
. Anyhow, creativity tandem Brodsky, Utkin was highly appreciated by international architectural expertise, as evidenced by numerous awards professional competitions. Percentage of implemented projects at the same time was quite insignificant, and all implementations are either architectural design (interior of the restaurant "Atrium" in Moscow), . either to small architectural forms (a pedestrian bridge in Tacoma, . United States, . located, . as follows from the press release exhibition, . process of implementation).,
. As the basis for all projects Brodsky has always been figurative imagery, the phenomenon of his work, among other things, has always belonged to the practice of modern art
. This exhibition shows him as an artist, the main professional occupation which, as the foundation of thinking, after all is the architecture. "Canalis utopicus" - the first such exhibition Brodsky in Moscow. In it, he should be the favorite motifs and techniques - taking as a basis for a low object, it is extremely mythologised and mystified, making the plot big-style, bringing to a great utopia Piranesi. Architectural skills of the great feel competent in the location of the installation space, respecting the proportions between the expressive forms of the substantive scope and size of the exhibition hall.
"Utopian drainage" - indeed the first monographic exhibition in Moscow, Alexander Brodsky. For over ten years he was in full compliance with their shared movement "paper architecture" appeared on the Moscow stage a kind of unconditional, . but elusive maestro, . conquers his graphic fantasies are full of world art community,
. Despite some stranger tandem Brodsky, Utkin (all projects prior to 1993 were developed by them jointly) has taken a strong leadership position in the local artistic chaos, . assuming (possibly without realizing it) the burden of unconditional virtuosos architectural utopias and live the classics,
. We know how complicated your every subsequent step in the halo of its own credibility. Instantly there is a comparative bracket, evaluative look, every gesture is weighed in the scales of your own "former" glory. But Brodsky safe from the evaluation of trauma. Public applause or reproach and running with fellow artists a race - not his planida.
. He organically and steadily continues to have long chosen path, and "utopian Drain" is easily read as materialized in a very brutal flesh architectural fantasy, or rather - a utopia.
. Sewerage - a series of low-lying, . korobyaschih its recognizability Brodsky matter becomes a repository of the world - invisible and alluring being, . shackled giant pipe, . flattened, . tucked away inside and swirling in her womb unknown, . hypnotic its inaccessibility life,
. Wheezing and gurgling, the sound of water that spews out a mysterious flesh out, only inflame the curiosity, but did not admit inward, stopping us on the precarious border incredible and obvious.
"There are cities in which no return ... They do not proniknesh for any gold ... "- this from another Brodsky, but seemed to be on" Canalis Utopicus ". The endless motion of someone unidentified life as bleak as the monastery of Charon, incomprehensible, as leteyskie water and alluring, like a phantom Venice. On the surface extend only glimpses of it - in graphic lists the artist, accumulate the romantic fantasies of all time. Of course, dreams otherwise pleasant to behold as the city of the sun, or even the Garden of Eden. But Brodsky another romance - moist, twilight, vague tormenting and tingling skin - a tactile rather than visual - what is your unconscious premonition of something for every habitual immersion in sucking the subway tunnel.
