In the 1870's took an active part in the Populist movement, and after the disintegration of society in 1879, "Land and Freedom" to "People's Will" and "Reapportionment" joined "Redistribution". Earlier a. been abroad, has acquired great knowledge of the history of the socialist movement in the West and took part in the "Community". In early 1880 A. settled abroad and published articles in the journal "free word". In 1883 he, together with Plekhanov and others formed the first Social-Democratic Party "Emancipation of Labor" and has since worked steadily in the ranks of the Russian Social-Democracy. A. belongs to the so-called "Mensheviks" and is a supporter of the revolutionary bloc and opposition forces in Russia to achieve immediate political goals.
