Biography Stanislav Bogush-Sestrentsevich
(1731 - 1827). Place of the Lithuanian nobility Reformed Confession. Educated at University of Frankfurt, was in the military service, then engaged in raising children of Prince Radziwill, in whose house converted to Catholicism. He was rector of Bobruisk and Gomel and canon in Vilna, and then elevated to the rank of bishop-suffragana. On the accession of Belarus to Russia by Catherine II, personally acquainted with him, appointed him in 1773, Mr.. Bishop Belarus. Since then he has become true of the policy of the Russian government against the Catholic Church in Russia, has caused animosity against him by the Jesuits and the papal curia. In 1782, Mr.. Bogush-C. elevated to the rank of archbishop. Paul I granted him the title of Metropolitan of the Roman Catholic churches in Russia, and arranged for him cardinal attire (construction B. the rank of cardinal by Pope was rejected). By the intrigues of the Jesuits BS-Sestrentsevich in 1800, Mr.. was expelled from the capital, but in the beginning of the reign of Alexander I returned to his post and appointed chairman of the Roman Catholic Theological College.
