A popular teacher in Sumy county, served in zemstvos in Chernigov and Kiev. In 1895 - 1899 years in Chernigov Hrinchenko edited the ethnographic material, a valuable collection on the ethnography of Little Russia, in particular, songs and tales. Very valuable as Grinchenko published in 1901. "Bibliography of Ukrainian Folklore 1777 - 1900 years" (Chernigov). His observations of people's everyday life Grinchenko outlined in numerous special articles and literary adaptation in the novels and stories. As a connoisseur of Little Russian language, Hrinchenko edited the Russo-Ukrainian Dictionary Umantsa. During the processing of the Ukrainian language dictionary, published in 1907. in 4 volumes, Grinchenko was awarded Kostomarova. Novels and short stories published in Galician Grinchenko editions: "Zora", "Literary Research Bulletin", in "Antiquities of Kiev", in III T. "Vika". Separately issued "Create Vasil Chaychenka" (Lviv, 1891) and "Opovidannya" (Kiev, 1899); Hrinchenko collected works published in Kiev. In the stories Hrinchenko depicted mostly miserable situation impoverished peasants. In stories Hrinchenko evident familiarity with the people's life and literary art, in the absence, however, bright colors and inner strength.
