Biography Deribas Osip Mikhailovich
(1749 - 1800), a native of Naples. At the invitation of Count Orlov-Chesmensky in 1772. came to Russia and joined a volunteer in the Black Sea Fleet. During the second war with the Turks, he captured, along with Lt. Col. Holovaty, Berezan Fortress (1788) and the fortress Khadjibey (1789), in the place where his current project soon arose Odessa, where he was the first organizer and head of. Under Paul I was Deribas General krigskomissarom, managed forest department and the project was to strengthen Kronstadt. In honor of its main street of the city of Odessa called Deribasovskoy.
