Zakharov, Ivan Ilyich

A pupil of St. Petersburg Theological Academy, stayed in Beijing spiritual mission since 1839, Mr.. by 1850. In 1851, Mr.. was appointed the first Russian consul in the Chinese realm, namely in Gulja; took great interest in the conclusion Gulja treatise and especially in the delineation of our possessions with the Chinese (in 1864). In 1869, Mr.. began lecturing at the University of Manchurian language, first as a teacher, and since 1879. - Professor. Zakharov was famous as a connoisseur not only Manchurian and Chinese languages, but in general China. Capital works of his: "Full Manchurian-Russian Dictionary" (St. Petersburg, 1875) and "Grammar Manchurian language" (St. Petersburg, 1879) - the best that we still have on this subject. They brought him a doctorate and a large Konstantinovo medal Imp. Russian Geographic Society (1878). He also owns two very interesting articles: "Historical review of population in China" and "ownership of land in China" ( "Proceedings of the members of the Beijing spiritual mission," t. I and II), translated into German and English. As a member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, Zakharov put a few notes and reviews in publications of the society.
