Biography Archytas
(Archytas) (ca. 430, Tarentum - after 360 BC) politician and military leader, the largest representative of Pythagoreanism in Tarentum (the last center of Pythagoreanism in Italy). Maintained friendly relations with Plato. Teacher Eudoxus of Cnidus. A. attributed to many psevdopifagoreyskih treatises, but modern research shows that most A. following numerical philosophy, ontology is the number of missing. A. developed the ideas of kinship harmonics and astronomy (see. Harmony of the spheres). He believed that the natural movement creates circles and rounded forms, and hence planets have circular orbits. In honor of A. lunar crater named Archytas.
