Born June 21, 1953 in Karachi and was the first child Nusrat Ispahan, originally Iranian woman, and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1971 to 1977. She graduated from high school in Karachi, continued her education at Harvard and then at Oxford University.
In the period from 1979 to 1984 was subjected to repeated arrests. Since 1984 she lived in England, in 1986, returned to Pakistan, becoming the leader of the opposition and founded by her father's Pakistan People's Party (PPP). After the death of Zia-ul-Haq died in a car accident PNP won the elections of 1988, and Bhutto became Prime Minister.

In elections in October 1990, President Ghulam Ishaq Khan dismissed her as prime minister and appointed a new elections, in which PNP was defeated.

After the 1993 elections, Bhutto was re-chair of the Prime Minister. The total number of votes received by the TNG, was less than that of chief rival - the Muslim League, therefore, to form a government Bhutto formed a coalition with the conservative wing.

In November 1993 he returned from exile her brother Murtaza, who demanded he give up leadership of the Party. Discord among the family of Bhutto's impact on the unity of the Party. Upon arrival in Karachi, Murtaza was arrested on terrorism charges but was released on bail in June 1994.

In September 1996, Murtaza was killed in a shootout with police. His murder was accused Bhutto's husband - Zardari. Later that same year Bhutto was accused of massive corruption and organizing contract murders. President Farooq Leghari has expanded the government in November 1996. In the parliamentary elections in 1997 PPP suffered a crushing defeat, winning 17 seats out of 217. In early 1998, Bhutto, her husband and mother were formally charged with corruption, their accounts of British and Swiss banks were frozen, but shortly after the investigation was suspended, and the charges against Bhutto lifted.
