Biography Reitern Evgraf Romanovich
Receiving a general education in the School of the Lutheran Church of St.. Peter in St. Petersburg, within one year, attended lectures at Tartu University and in 1811 he entered military service. Officer participated in the campaign against Napoleon's army retreating from Russia, and Leipzig was deprived of his right hand. As a child fallen in love with art, began to seriously pursue painting during his treatment in foreign lands, in 1814, and finally decided to devote himself to painting on the advice of Goethe, in 1818. He studied her from Mr.. Lori, in Bern, and at Fr.-In. Schadow and Hildebrandt, Dц?sseldorf. Enjoyed the favor and patronage of the Empress Elizabeth Alekseevny and Emperors Alexander I and Nicholas I. After visits to various places in Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy, he lived in Dц?sseldorf and since 1844 - in Frankfurt, only occasionally coming to his estate of Livonia and St. Petersburg. Worked, by necessity, left hand. The best of his paintings: "Abraham brought Isaac to sacrifice" (1849) is in the museum of Alexander III, in St. Petersburg, in addition, there are several works of his hands in the Imperial palaces of country.
