Biography Boecklin Arnold (Boecklin Arnold)
(1827-1901) Born October 16, 1827 in Basel. He studied in Dц?sseldorf (1845-1847), Geneva (1847) and Paris (1848). He worked in Basel, Munich, Italy. He was one of the most controversial artists of his time: some admired his rich artistic imagination, others criticized it as a poor painter. In the last years of his life Bocklin had a strong influence on the literary circles of the Symbolists who sought counter naturalism. Among the works Beklin - paintings Isle of the Dead (1880, Basel, Art Museum) and Triton and Nereid (1873-1874) was. The artist never gave the names of his paintings and did not sign them. Bocklin died in Florence on Jan. 16, 1901.
