Biography Pierre Bonnard (Bonnard Pierre)
(1867-1947)
He painted landscapes, still lifes, interiors and genre scenes in the Impressionist manner. In his paintings the objects are surrounded by a light haze, a combination of muted colors are often whimsical and reminiscent of oriental carpets.
Bonnard was born on October 3, 1867 in Fontenay-o-Roses, near Paris. After graduating from the Academy Julian, where he studied under Bouguereau and Robert-Fleury, Bonnard joined the group 'Nabi', which has exhibited his works since 1891. His early works - decorative panels, posters, stage sets and book illustrations. In 1903 he started painting, his paintings of this time reflect the influence of Degas, Manet, Renoir, Cezanne, Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec. Together with J. E. Vyuyyarom Bonnard belongs to the second generation of French Impressionists, later named 'intimistami' because they chose to depict scenes of everyday life. Bonnard valued very highly and was called 'the most beautiful painter'. He survived the German occupation of Paris and in 1946 arranged a retrospective exhibition of his works. Died Bonnard at Le Canne January 23, 1947.
