Biography Francesco Borromini (Borromini Francesco)

Borromini was born in Lombardy in Bisson, September 25, 1599. His real name - Castelli (Castelli). Studied under Carlo Maderno in Rome. Mason worked on the construction of the Cathedral of St.. Peter then worked with Bernini in the building of the Palazzo Barberini (1625-1663). His first independent work - the church of San Carlo alle Quatro Fontane in Rome (1634-1641, facade - 1662-1667). Although the works of Borromini noticeable influence of Michelangelo and Andrea Palladio, this does not detract from the originality of his creative concept. When creating an ensemble Oratorio Filipinos (1637-1662) he gave the original form through the facade, and its architectural solution had an enormous impact on the Italian and European architecture of 17-18 centuries. For decoration of the Palazzo Falconieri (1639-1641) the greatest interest lobby is elegant and refined dц?cor lampshades. The architecture of the Church of Sant Ivo alla Sapienza (1642-1660) plan of the building, the unity of interior space and the oval shape of the dome and the lantern are the traits by which one can accurately define the style of Borromini. He owns and interior decoration of the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano (1649), the facade of the church of Sant Agnese in Piazza Navona (1653-1655, finished Carlo Rainald) and bell tower of the church of Sant Andrea delle Fratte (1665).
Works of Borromini - one of the vertices of Baroque architecture. Classical theorists have criticized them for their pretentiousness and extravagance, as well as for the free circulation with a warrant forms. Modern scholars see them as a new, bold vision for the architectural planning, design and decoration of the building and pay attention to the embodied in its images of deep, intense, suffused with religious feeling of austerity. Borromini died in Rome on August 2, 1667
