Biography BRAS, Charles Francis (Brush Charles Francis)
(1849-1929)
Born March 17, 1849 in Yuklide (pc. Ohio), attended the Cleveland schools (pc. Ohio). In 1869 he graduated from the University of Michigan. Through experiments with electrical machines, which was interested in youth, in 1876 invented the dynamo, generating DC high voltage - the prototype of the modern rotary generator. He created an electric arc lamp and battery. Set up his lamp in one of the largest stores of Philadelphia, in 1879 organized a street lighting in Cleveland, and in 1880 - in New York. By 1882 Brush lamp lit streets of cities across the U.S.. In 1880 he was created 'Brush Electric Company', which in 1891 together with the company Edison and several smaller firms served as the basis corporations 'General Electric'. In 1905 the company created Bras 'Lindh Air Production' for the production of oxygen from liquefied air and has developed a new design of the vacuum gauge. In 1899, the American Academy of Arts and the Arts awarded him the Rumford Medal of B.. Brash died in Cleveland June 15, 1929.
