According Vigny, a man alone in front of a blind man by nature, indifferent to its joys and sufferings. However, the lamentations on the fate of humiliating, and the only decent position - stoic acceptance of the inevitable inheritance.
Born March 27, 1797 at Locher. He studied at a Paris high school, but following the family tradition, chose a military career. Served near Paris, has published poems in the magazine V. Hugo 'Konservater literer', made friends with the first circle of French Romantic writers. In 1822 he published a small collection of poems (Pomes), amended and reissued in 1826 under the title of the poem on the ancient and modern stories (Pomes antiques et modernes). Other poetic heritage Vigny became a posthumous collection of Fate (Les Destines, 1864), which included six and philosophical poems published during his lifetime in the journal "Revue de Deux Monde '.

Unable to stand the monotony of garrison life, not sulivshey promotion, Vigny in 1827 he retired and devoted himself entirely to literature. In the wake of the growing interest in Shakespeare translated into French Othello (1829), and then wrote a romantic drama in prose, wife of Marshal d'Ankra (La Marchale d'Ancre, 1831) and one-act comedy escaped with fright (Quitte pour la peur, 1833). The most famous piece Vigny, Chatterton (Chatterton, 1835), dedicated to his favorite topic - the fate of the unrecognized genius.

Under the influence of W. Scott Vigny created the first French major historical novel Sept-March (1826). Of the major prose works he owned as a novel Stella (Stello, . 1832), . consisting of three Romanized sketches of poets N. Gilbert, . Chatterton and A. Chenier, . and the three-part novel captivity and the greatness of a soldier (Servitude et grandeur militaires, . fully publ,
. 1835) - the nobility and sacrifice of the warrior.

In the prime of Vigny was completed in solitude, retiring, according to Sh.O.Sent-Beuve, in the 'ivory tower'. Vigny died in Paris on September 16, 1863.
