Biography Charles Goodyear (Goodyear Charles)
(1800-1860) Born December 29, 1800 in New Haven (pc. Connecticut). He became a partner company's hardware 'Goodyear and Sons'. In 1830 the company ran into financial difficulties, and Goodyear decided to do the improvement of production technology of rubber. For 10 years trying to create a material that remains flexible and durable to heat and cold. Treated rubber resin acid, boiling it in magnesium, adding various substances, but all of its products were transformed into a sticky mass in the first hot day. In 1839, a drop of the prepared mixture of rubber with sulfur accidentally fell on a hot stove, there was a rubber vulcanization. After numerous tests Goodyear found the optimal curing regime and in 1844 received a patent for his invention. There have been several attempts to produce rubber, but each time failed. History of his discovery described in the work of Rubber and its variants (Gum Elastic and Its Varieties, 2 vols, 1853-1855). Goodyear died in New York on July 1, 1860.
