Biography Giovanni Giolitti (Giolitti Giovanni)
(1842-1928), born October 27, 1842 in Mondovi (Sardinia). He graduated from the University of Turin (1860). In 1882-1924 several times elected to the Chamber of Deputies and has repeatedly served as prime minister (in 1892-1893, 1903-1905, 1906-1909, 1911-1914 and 1920-1921). In seeking the location of the reformist wing of the labor movement, . Giolitti introduced in the government socialists, . held liberal reforms, . legalized workers' organizations, . recognized the right of workers to strike (1901), . introduced universal suffrage for men (1912),
. Giolitti was the master of all sorts of intrigue, pressure, manipulation of the votes, while remaining figure democratic orientation. Giolitti entered Italy in the Triple Alliance, but has established relations with France, made a seizure of Libya.
Giolitti won re-election in 1914, but resigned "for health reasons'. He tried to prevent the entry of Italy into World War I, leading the camp of the supporters of neutrality. The success of the People's Party and the Socialists in elections in 1919 has led to changes in its pre-war political tactics. Last term Giolitti as prime minister - on 15 June 1920 to July 4, 1921. Like most prewar politicians, Giolitti initially supported the Nazis, but after the murder of Matteotti joined the opposition and spoke against Mussolini. Died Giolitti in Cavour 17 July 1928.
