Coming from a family of French Protestants, fleeing persecution in Switzerland, was born in Geneva on February 18, 1559. After studying in Geneva Academy, remained there as professor of Greek language from 1582 to 1596, when he moved to Montpellier, but in 1598 he was invited to the court. In 1600, on behalf of Henry IV took part in a debate held in Fontainebleau, Cardinal Jean Du Perron and head of the French Protestants F.Dyuplessi-Morne.
