Biography CALLAS Maria (Callas Maria)
(1923-1977)
Brightness singing and playing it made a revolution in opera is transformed into a serious drama that is usually understood as a boring routine opera.
Maria Kaloyeropulos was born Dec. 3, 1923 in New York in a mixed Greek-American family. In 1936 the family returned to Greece, and there Callas began to engage in singing in the Athens Conservatory with Elvira de Hidalgo, who teaches her bel canto foundation. Already in early youth a powerful sounding voice, as well as its range trehoktavny identified the main singer's Role - the hardest party of the Italian repertoire, as well as Wagner

. Callas to fame in 1949, . when it is within one week she sang Brunnhilde in Wagner's Valkyries and Elvira in Bellini's Puritans - it was a feat, . equal which is not found in the history of opera in the first half of 20.: these parties are not only very difficult, . but diametrically opposed to purely musical style and vocal problems,
. In 1951 the singer joined the Milan theater troupe 'La Scala', becoming a diva: here it was sung by most of the 37 parties of its repertoire. Callas's voice perfectly embodied the tragic pathos bellinievskoy Standards, . smartness and wit rossinievskoy Rosina (Barber of Seville), . sadness and madness of the heroines of Donizetti (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Bellini (La traviata), . pride of Verdi's tragic characters,
.

In 1954, Callas was a special treatment to get rid of excess weight, and a new look has allowed the singer to embody on stage opera images with stunning realism. In the same year she was first successfully performed in the U.S. (Chicago), and two years later opened the 1956-1957 season in the 'Metropolitan Opera' execution of the main party in Bellini's Norma. In the late 1950's by Callas had serious problems with the voice, and in 1962 she left the stage.

But in 1965 she twice performed in the 'Metropolitan Opera' Tosca at the party: its interpretation, in spite of some shortcomings of the purely vocal, confirmed the view of Callas as the most convincing and stunning performer of this role.

Callas died in Paris on September 16, 1977.
