Cattaneo Daneze Di Michele (Cattaneo Danese di Michele)

Born in Colonnata near Carrara in 1509, studied in Rome with Jacopo Sansovino. When the looting of Rome in 1527 the troops of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V Cattaneo three times taken prisoner, and then fled to Florence and returned to Rome around 1530. He accompanied his teacher during a trip to Venice. There Cattaneo carved marble statue of Apollo to the fountain in Dzekke (ca. 1540) and a statue of St.. Jerome for the church of San Salvatore. In 1565, the sculptor, together with his pupil Girolamo Campagna created a tombstone Jan Fregozo II, which is located in the Church of Sant 'Anastasia in Verona. Earlier, in 1547, he performed a bust of Cardinal Pietro Bembo to his gravestone in the church of San Antonio in Padua. Cattaneo also wrote poetry, which won the admiration Torquato Tasso (About Love Marfisa, Dell'amor di Marfisa, 1562). The sculptor died in Padua in 1573, leaving unfinished relief for Orchestra Del Santo in the church of Sant 'Antonio, who completed his pupil Girolamo Campagna.
