Biography Aleksander Kwasniewski (Kwasnievski Alexander)
(p. 1954) Born in Byalograde (Koszalin Voivodship) November 15, 1954 in family physicians. He graduated from Gdansk University with a specialty economist. Worked for the Union of Socialist Polish Youth. Member of the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR) since 1977. In 1981-1984 - chief editor of the weekly youth ', etc.', in 1984-1985 - a popular youth newspaper 'The flag mlodyh' ( 'Sztandar Mlodych'). In 1985 he was appointed a member of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Youth and Physical Culture. At the end of 1980 participated in the roundtables, marked the fall of communism. In January 1990, out of the Polish United Workers', participated in the creation of its successor - the Democratic Left Alliance, the Social Democratic Party, which has taken a significant number of seats in parliament in the 1993 elections. Since 1991 - Member and Chairman of the Constitutional Commission of the Seimas. In 1995 was nominated for the Democratic Left Alliance (in alliance with the Peasant Party) for President and won with a slight advantage L. Valencia. In 2000 was elected to a second term, having been in the first round 53.9% of votes. Kwasniewski is actively pursuing a policy of strengthening the market economy and democratic transformation.
