Biography KEILA George (Cayley George)
(1773-1857)
Born December 27, 1773 in Scarborough (Yorkshire). Receiving primary education in the schools, York and Nottingham, in 1792 went to South Gate to study electricity and chemistry. From 1800 for many years, Keighley record in a notebook observations of the flight of different birds and their views on this subject. Since 1804 began to conduct aerodynamic experiments and soon built the first model glider with a tilted angle of 6 б° carrier plane, which was connected to a strip with a pair of mutually perpendicular rotating small plates. Keighley came to the conclusion, . that the establishment of an aircraft heavier than air is possible only after detailed study of the effects of air flow on an inclined plane of the bearing and the development of a suitable engine, almost 100 years of the same conclusions made by the Wright brothers,
. In 1807, Keighley published his first article on 'the engine with the expansion of the air' - a sealed unit, where the air is pumped through the pump, heater and fed into the working cylinder. Articles Keighley outlining the principles of flight and glider aircraft have been published in 'Journal of Natural Philosophy' ( 'Journal of Natural Philosophy') in 1809 and 1810. In these studies Keighley considered the dependence on the speed of the aircraft characteristics such, . the lifting force, . load on the wing, . voltage design, . gains in countering the forces of gravity, discussed the principle of the internal combustion engine; proposed streamlined shape design,
. Around 1,815 Keighley interested guided balloons. In his writings of this period are discussed relations between the dimensions and weight of the ball, the optimal shape of the ball, the need for braces. He proposes a sectional, gas cylinders and a waterproof shell; compares the dignity of balloons filled with hot air and hydrogen, is considering ways to prevent fire. In 1837, Keighley patented engine on hot air, in 1840 advanced the idea of a helicopter with two main rotor on one shaft with a steam-driven; in 1853 suggested towing the propeller and engine on hydrogen.
Died Keighley, Brompton Hall near Scarborough on Dec. 15, 1857
