Wolfgang Koehler (Khler Wolfgang)

He was born in Revel (now Tallinn), January 21, 1887. He was educated at the universities of Tц?bingen, Bonn and Berlin. In 1922, after a series of brilliant experiments on the perception and intelligence of chimpanzees, which brought him international recognition, was appointed director of the Psychological Institute at the University of Berlin. This institute Koehler continued based on the theory of Gestalt studies and in 1929 published the work of Gestalt psychology (Gestaltpsychologie; rus. translated 1972), the manifesto Gestalt school that he established, together with Kurt Koffka and Max Wertheimer. In 1935, Koehler resigned in protest against interference in the affairs of the University of the Nazis and emigrated to the U.S.. In 1955 became a member of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton University and in 1958 - a psychology professor at Dartmouth College. Koehler died in Anfield (pc. New Hampshire) 11 June 1967.
