Biography Kolchak, Aleksandr Vasilyevich
(1874-1920)
Born 4 (16) November 1874 in St. Petersburg. In 1894 he graduated from the Naval College in 1900-1902 participated in the Polar Expedition of St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. During the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905 commanded destroyers, mine-layers and battery in a besieged fortress of Port Arthur. After the war - an active member of the naval officers, prepares proposals on reform of Russia's Navy. In 1914 he assumed the duties of chief of operations of the Baltic Fleet, and in July 1916 was appointed commander of the Black Sea Fleet in the rank of Rear Admiral. In June 1917 he was recalled to Petrograd, and seconded to the U.S. as an expert in mine case. In late 1917 he returned to the Far East. Heading into the Volunteer Army, stopped in Omsk and 4 November 1918 was appointed Minister of Defense recently established the All-Russia interim government, united Komuch and the Siberian Government.
November 18, 1918 in a military coup in Omsk was installed a dictatorship, Kolchak was proclaimed 'supreme ruler Rossiyskogo States'. In this capacity, he was recognized by governments of the Entente and the United States, and June 12, 1919, and General Denikin. His main goal was the armed struggle against the Bolsheviks. After the defeat of Eastern White Army Kolchak January 4, 1920 transferred his powers to Denikin. The troops of the Czechoslovak Legion, commanded by the chief officer of the allied forces in Siberia, French General Janin, handed Kolchak interim SR-Menshevik 'political center' in Irkutsk, in exchange for free passage to Vladivostok. Then Kolchak was in the hands of the Bolsheviks and was shot by sentence of the Military Revolutionary Committee in Irkutsk on Feb. 7, 1920.
