Biography Crighton Mandell (Creighton Mandell)
(1843-1901) Born in Carlisle July 5, 1843. He studied at Merton College, Oxford University, in 1867 received a bachelor's degree. In 1875 became a priest in the county of Northumberland, where nearly ten years, combined the duties of a pastor and history lessons. In 1884 he became a professor of church history at Cambridge University. Creighton was the editor of 'English historical review' ( 'English Historical Review') in 1886-1891 and president of the Church Historical Society in 1894 and the end of life. He was appointed Bishop of Peterborough in 1891, but six years later moved to London. Among the works Crichton - History of the Papacy during the Reformation (History of the Papacy During the Period of the Reformation, . 5 vols., . 1882-1894); History of the Papacy from the separation of churches before the plundering of Rome (History of the Papacy from the Great Schizm to the Sack of Rome, . 6 vols., . 1897), . He owns and biographies of Cardinal Wolsey (1888), Simon de Montfort (1876) and Queen Elizabeth (1896). Creighton died in London on January 14, 1901.
