Biography Max Liebermann (Liebermann Max)
(1847-1935) Born July 20, 1847 in Berlin. He studied in Berlin (1886-1868) and in art school in Weimar (1868-1872). Under the influence of painting Courbet, Millet and Frans Hals Lieberman became the founder and most prominent representative of German Expressionism. He drew genre scenes, which he wrote first in muted, and then in fresh saturated colors, with attention to light and movement. As an opponent of the official art, Lieberman in 1899 founded the Berlin Secession, and was elected its president. After Hitler came to power, Lieberman has been removed from all posts, and his works confiscated from museums. In recent years the artist spent in solitude. Lieberman, died Feb. 8, 1935. (21.95 Kb)
