Biography LOT Andre (Lhote Andr)
(1885-1962) Born July 5, 1885 in Bordeaux. He was educated woodcarver and sculptor, interior decorator, then turned to painting. In 1908 he went to Paris, where the influence of paintings by Cezanne prompted him to join the founders of Cubism. Works of Lot were presented at the first Cubist exhibition in 1911 and 1912. However, he never belonged to a radical cubism and abstraction sought to achieve reconciliation with the reality. His works have been allocated to the skilful, full motion and color. Lot was a remarkable teacher and lecturer. Among the most important theoretical works of Lot should be noted Treatise on Landscape (1939) and Treatise on the figure (1950). Lot died in Paris on January 24, 1962.
