Biography MAKNIS Lewis (MacNeice Louis)
(1907-1963)
Born September 12, 1907 in Belfast, the son of Bishop. He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, where he studied classical scholar, and later taught it to the University of Birmingham (1930-1936) and the Bedford Women's College (1936-1940). In 1941-1949 he wrote the texts and put auditions for BBC News, in 1950 was appointed director of the British Institute in Athens. Maknis often performed in the United States to give lectures and readings of poetry

Ten burnt offerings (Ten Burnt Offerings, . 1952) and Visitation (Visitations, . 1959), . work of contemporary poetry (1938) and WB Yeats (1941), . translation of Goethe's Faust (1951) and expressionistic drama in verse Beyond (Out of the Picture, . 1937), . book of poetry and prose Letters from Iceland (Letters from Iceland, . 1937; with WH Auden),
. In 1958 Maknis was awarded the Order of the British Empire. Maknis died in London on September 3, 1963.
