Mulroney, Brian (Mulroney Brian)

Born March 20, 1939 in Baie-Como (Province of Quebec). He was educated at the University of Sts. Francis Xavier in Antigonishe (Nova Scotia). He studied law at Laval University in Quebec.
He worked in the law firm of Ogilvy, a unit of the Progressive Conservative Party. In 1968 and 1972 included in the electoral headquarters of the Conservative. In 1976, Mulroney declared his candidacy for the party leader, but lost to Joe Clark. In the same year he became executive vice president of iron ore company of Canada, in 1977 he was appointed president of the company. In 1984, Progressive Conservatives won the most votes in all 10 provinces of the country and the first time since 1958 went to the national level. During his first term as Prime Minister Mulroney succeeded in raising the rate of growth of national income. During the second term Mulroney attempted to implement a constitutional agreement that would satisfy the aspirations of Quebec on the 'special' status. A contract concluded between Mulroney and the premiers of the provinces in the Meech Lake (Quebec) in April 1987, received no legal force, since the two provincial legislatures to ratify it on a specific date in June 1990. The second contract, signed in August 1992 in Charlottetown, was rejected in a referendum in October 1992.
