Adnan Menderes (Menderes Adnan)

(1899-1961)
Born Aydne 1899. He graduated from the American College in Izmir and Ankara University. In 1930 he was elected to the National Assembly on the list of Republican People's Party, which at that time was the only legal party in Turkey. Participated in the creation in 1946 the Democratic Party, led it to victory in elections in 1950. Menderes became prime minister, his government has received twice the support of the electorate. After 1955 Menderes tightened censorship, the Government conducted a review of 'unpatriotic activities of' Republican People's Party. May 27, 1960 led by General Kemal Gц?rsel virtually bloodless coup ended the rule of Menderes. Along with other former leaders of the country, and Menderes was arrested in October 1960 appeared in court accused of violating the constitution and corruption. Menderes was executed in Imrali September 17, 1961.
