Foreign Margaret (Mead Margaret)

Born Dec. 16, 1901 in Philadelphia (pc. Pennsylvania). Studied at the University de Pau, Barnard College and Columbia University (MA in Psychology - 1924, Doctor of Anthropology - 1929). An expedition to the islands of Samoa (1925-1926), the Admiralty Islands (1928-1929), in New Guinea (1931-1933), Bali and New Guinea (1936-1939), studying adolescent and sexual behavior among primitive tribes. In 1926, Meade became curator of ethnology at the American Museum of Natural History, and in 1954 - an associate professor of anthropology at Columbia University. . In 1956, Mead was elected president of the World Federation for Mental Health, in 1974 - president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 1967, again visited New Guinea. Mead died in New York on 15 November 1978.
