Pierre Mignard (Mignard Pierre)

(1612-1695)
Born in Troyes November 17, 1612. He studied with several other artists from Simon Vouet, and then twenty years (from 1636 to 1656) held in Rome. During this period he wrote mostly images of Madonnas. After returning to France Mignard succeeded Charles Lebrun to the positions of the first painter of the King and director of the royal manufactory of tapestries and furniture. Among his most famous works Mignard - Assumption of the Virgin in the dome of the Church of Val de Grace (1665, Paris), the decoration of the new gallery of Versailles (1685), as well as portraits: Dauphin with his family, Louis XIV; Madame de Maintenon, Madame de Montespan. Mignard died in Paris on May 30, 1695.
