Biography Jacques Offenbach (Offenbach Jacques)
(1819-1880)
Born June 21, 1819 in Cologne in a Jewish family, the father of the composer was a cantor of the local synagogue. The boy showed early musical talent (he played the cello), and in 1833 his father brought him to Paris - then the music capital of Europe. Nedolgo studying at the Paris Conservatoire, the young Offenbach began to lead a life free of the artist - a composer and performer. The first success brought him a concert tour in England: there, he played before Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In 1860 he became a citizen of France, and in 1862 was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor.
In the seven years (1848-1855) Offenbach was the musical director of the theater 'Comedie Francaise', but in 1855 resigned and opened his own theater - 'Buff-Parisienne'. Two one-act operetta Blind (Les Deux Aveugles, 1855) was an instant 'hit of the season', and the cause of Offenbach's rapidly went up the hill. During the next quarter century, he showed more than 90 of his works, and usually quite extensive, and became the most popular author of operettas throughout Europe, especially England and Austria

. Probably, . Offenbach's most famous works - this is operetta Orpheus in the Underworld (Orphe aux enfers, . 1858), . Belle Helene (La belle Hlne, . 1864), . Paris Life (La vie parisienne, . 1866), . Grand Duchess Gerolshteynskaya (La grande duchesse de Grolstein, . 1867), . Micaela Villegas (La Prichole, . 1868), . Thieves (Les brigands, . 1869) and the opera Tales of Hoffmann (Les contes d'Hoffmann, . 1880),
. The opera was staged only after the composer's death, stood in the year 101, representation, and still retains its leading position in the operatic repertoire. Offenbach was a very talented and prolific composer, endowed with excellent melodic gift (which is more clearly seen in Tales of Hoffmann). His operetta sparkle fun, full of satirical allusions and witty parodies.

In 1876, Offenbach has made concert tours in the U.S. and wrote about his impressions of the book traveling musician Notes (Notes d'un musicien en voyage, 1877). Offenbach died in Paris on October 5, 1880.
