Biography Alberto Santos-Dumont (Santos-Dumont Alberto)
(1873-1932) Born July 20, 1873 in Palmire. In 1891 he moved to Paris, where he engaged in the construction of airships. Created more than a dozen airships small size with a soft shell. In 1901, he was awarded the prize-Germany, when flying on his airship from Saint-Cloud (a suburb of Paris) to the Eiffel Tower, walked around it and returned. After the first flight of the Wright brothers' Santos-Dumont took up the design and construction of aircraft heavier than air. As an amateur, has created an original, but impractical biplane '14-bis' ( 'duck') and performed the first recorded European flights, the duration of the longest of them was only 21 with. In 1906-1909 Santos-Dumont built 8 aircraft, including the famous monoplanes 'Demuazel' and 'Grasshoppers'. Owing to illness, was forced to leave the training aircraft and in 1928 he returned to Brazil. Died Santos-Dumont in Guaruja (pc. Sao Paulo) 25 July 1932.
